District of Columbia:Here I Come

Dec 13th, 06

Today, I write to you from...a parking lot in New Jersey. Jersey City, to be exact. It's days like today that give me a lot of promise for the future. Why? Because no matter what happens, I think I can end up somewhere better than a parking lot in New Jersey.

It's officially Christmas. Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" blasts through the speakers of my Escalade (that's code for small Volvo) as I write. Hang your stockings. Light your trees. What Mariah says, I will do. In sixth grade, I actually fell in love with her. No joke. "Always Be My Baby" was my anthem, my song of hope. Thankfully, seventh grade helped me move on.

I played in Manhattan this weekend and had the privilege of sharing the stage with Trevor Hall - www.trevorhallmusic.com. Check him out; this is the most original music I've heard in quite some time. He's got style. What kind of style? The kind of style that brings Matisyahu on stage with him. Seriously. This happened. It was beautiful.

While I?ve been driving for the last two weeks, I'm especially pumped for this week. Yeah, pumped. This week gives me one of the biggest opportunities of the month: the chance to drive in Washington, D.C. If you've never driven in the nation's capitol, you're missing a chance to see just how lost you can get.

I have friends that have been lost in DC since 2002. The District of Columbia is a hodge podge of streets that run diagonally into dead ends and different quadrants, leaving drivers no choice other than to abandon their vehicles and take buses back to civilization. George Washington thought it was an insanely cool idea.

But truthfully, when I find my way, I'm headed home for the two most exciting shows of the year. If you live near Indianapolis or Chicago, Aaron and Kyle will be playing with me this weekend, and this is such a good way to close the year. As much as I love traveling, it will be a good break from the steering wheel for the holidays.

Hope to see you this weekend.
